What is Anthromedics?
Anthroposophic medicine was established by Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) and Ita Wegman (1876–1943) early in the 20th century. In this approach the human being is seen as consisting of body, soul and spirit, and this is the basis for diagnosis and treatment. This makes it an integrative form of medicine which develops on the basis of modern scientific medicine and includes the dimensions of vitality, soul and spirit as part of essential human nature.

Anthromedics is a professional online portal offering articles on anthroposophic medicine for physicians, nursing staff and therapists in practices, hospitals or training. The information will initially be available in German and English, and in due course also in Spanish. Anthromedics is a work in progress and will continue to grow as the years go on.

Publishers
Anthromedics is published by the Medical Section of the School of Spiritual Science, the International Coordination of Anthroposophic Medicine in Dornach, Switzerland, and the Association of Anthroposophic Physicians in Germany (GAÄD).

Initiative group
On the initiative of Matthias Girke, MD, the Initiative Group was established in November 2011. Its present members are Matthias Girke, MD, Jakob Marti, Dagmar Brauer, Ursula Bruckmann, Marion Debus, MD, Michaela Gloeckler, MD, Sabine Kraemer, PhD, Prof. David Martin, MD, Christoph Rubens, MD, and Roland Zerm, MD as well as Steven Johnson, DO, (AnthroMedLibrary/PAAM).

Web concept / technical implementation
On the basis of ideas developed by the Initiative Group, an internal project group (Jakob Marti, Sabine Kraemer, PhD, and as a consultant Joachim Engelland) has collaborated closely with designers and programmers to bring the concept to realization and coordinate the technical implementation.

Translations into English
Selected papers from the Merkurstab have been continuously translated into English since 2011 to promote international availability. This partial project is run with real commitment by David Martin who coordinates and supervises a team of about ten translators. More than 200 papers are now available in English and will be technically processed and put into the portal as a next step.

The project is supported by the Mahle Foundation, the Christophorus Foundation and the Hauschka Foundation, to whom we are greatly indebted.

Getting international
From the autumn of 2012, we have been in close exchange with the operators of the American AnthroMedLibrary portal. Steven Johnson, MD, joined the Initiative Group in September 2013. Fusion of the two projects is envisaged. A selection of AnthroMedLibrary texts will be included in the Anthromedics digital archive and the digital textbook.

Invitation to join in the work
Editorial groups for specialist fields are currently being established. The most urgent need is for introductions to those fields, diseases, basics and therapies. We invite everyone interested in joining a specialist group or contributing an article to contact us. Contacts are given in the footer of this site. Editorial guidelines for producing the texts are available in German and English and will be sent on request.
